Splodinator.com Executive Portrait

For my portrait class at NAIT I had do to an executive portrait! I decided to shoot my good friend over at www.splodinator.com, Newbs. Lately I have been watching a lot of David Ziser videos on Kelby Training. His techniques have inspired me to explore with the loupe lighting pattern and one off camera flash. Andrea’s Hair Massacure!

Here in Edmonton, Alberta we have a yearly event called the Hair Massacure. People dye their hair pink, raise donations, and then chop off all their hair in honour of cancer survivors. My good friend Andrea Brown is raising $1000 dollars for the Massacure.

I asked her if I could go along while she was “pinking” her hair to document the process and raise awareness.

Still Life Assignment – What’s in my bag?

This week I had one other assignment – a still life for our Commercial/Industrial class. I decided to a What’s in my Bag photo!

I have to confess, I am a huge make up / fashion junkie. I also watch a ton of youtube videos on make up and style. Every now and then people post “What’s in my bag” videos to show what type of bag they are currently using, what make up products they carry on them 24/7, what other little accessories they have on them. Usually these are accompanied by links to a full review on each product.

I don’t have full reviews, nor am I motivated enough to post what each of these products are – however I do hope you enjoy the aesthetic of my image

Kinga & Rafal

Last week was a big week for me. I had the opportunity through NAIT to job shadow a photographer for an entire week. I choose Kinga Dydra from Images by Frost, one of the best local wedding photographers in Edmonton.

Through Kinga I got a ton of information on running a photography business and shooting weddings and engagements. It has definitely inspired me to make my photography more marketable and to think about how to make money and market myself! I hope to do some more assisting for her, including next summer during wedding season.

I recently finished one of the books she recommended to me, called Rework. It’s an incredibly brief read that is very optimistic and inspiring for small business owners. I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about running a tiny business, like a one or two-man photography studio.

The pictures above are of the lovely Kinga and her husband Rafal. She gave me some great tips for posing couples and I created these images with her help and guidance.
