Last NAIT assignment of 2011

Yay! Finally it’s almost Christmas break…

Here is my final portrait class assignment for this year… a self portrait for an editorial assignment. I pose with my best purchase ever, Margarita, the bald head. She helps me with lighting set ups, however she really needs to get some hair quick.

One more semester at NAIT until I graduate! What an incredible experience! I have improved so much as a photographer – coming in with the bare essentials and now I feel like I theoretically conquer any lighting dilemma! I have also very much improved at transforming theoretical solutions into a real solution with experimentation – flagging lights, gridding lights, it’s such a magical world!

My dear friend Sabine Shabbits also took my photo for her assignment… I’ll post it below, but all the credit belongs to her! Please check out her website at http://busybean.zenfolio.com/. She is my partner in crime for very many things that happen at NAIT…

Kinga & Rafal

Last week was a big week for me. I had the opportunity through NAIT to job shadow a photographer for an entire week. I choose Kinga Dydra from Images by Frost, one of the best local wedding photographers in Edmonton.

Through Kinga I got a ton of information on running a photography business and shooting weddings and engagements. It has definitely inspired me to make my photography more marketable and to think about how to make money and market myself! I hope to do some more assisting for her, including next summer during wedding season.

I recently finished one of the books she recommended to me, called Rework. It’s an incredibly brief read that is very optimistic and inspiring for small business owners. I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about running a tiny business, like a one or two-man photography studio.

The pictures above are of the lovely Kinga and her husband Rafal. She gave me some great tips for posing couples and I created these images with her help and guidance.

Getting ready for Halloween!

My darling friend Melissa Lo asked me to shoot some photographs of her in one of her many hand-crafted fur suits. We had a incredibly fun time shooting – and eating hamburgers while waiting for the sun to go down!

Let me know if you are interested in her services and I’ll pass her contact information on to you!
